The worst day ever: The kids had a field trip to Elitches on the summer camp calendar - yesterday. All summer long, Ave kept careful track of the event. Any camping trips or vacations elicited the question "Are we going to miss Elitches?" No dear, don't worries, mommy won't cause you to miss Elitches. At least a dozen times this summer she's talked about the trip. The anticipation could not have been greater. So, they finally reached the glorious E day, and off they go to camp. Mrs. H (the antithesis of fun... uh, I mean director) divides the kids up by height - 48" and taller, and 47" and shorter. Max is the former, Ave is the latter. She takes the 'babies' (Ave's description) to the toddler area, never to leave. Ave had to ride toddler rides all day. Elitches has a LOT of rides for the 32” - 48" set that are not toddler rides. Indeed, the toddler area has rides Ave can NOT ride because she is too tall.
Got home last night (late because I've been working overtime this and last week) and asked Ave how her day went.
"It was the worst day of my life!"
The worst day of her life. She spent all summer anticipating what turned out to be the worst day of camp for her. Mom will find a different summer camp next year. This was the biggest disappointment, but it is one of a host of frustrations my kids have had at camp this summer. No, Ave you can't go on the scheduled bike ride with the other kids - your bike's wheels are too small. No Max, you must do the prescribed art project; nope, reading during this time is not an option - all the kids need to be doing the same thing at the same time. And they've been showing PG movies! There are kindergartners in camp! Ave doesn't have problems with PG movies, but Max does. Let's just say he really immerses himself in the story and forgets it is just a story.
